Matariki Fun Day.

Task Description:For this mornings task we are posting a short blog post telling what Matariki is all about and highlights from our Matariki fun day. We as a class are explaining why NZ should celebrate Matariki and why we should we keep celebrating it?.

Matariki

Maori New Year

Last week on Friday Point England school got mixed up into different classes for Matariki, as we are celebrating a Maori New Year. We went into our classes and I was in cooking, the subjects are cooking, arts&crafts, movie making, and sports. I had lots of fun creating, making, and helping, because all these things is what my class had done together as a team and had a yummy lunch for a treat.

Celebrating what?
Matariki is the named Maori in the middle of winter for a star constellation, it represents a great moment in the Maori New Year's.

What do we see on the sky at the time?
After sun set the constellations are visible in the middle of the night, while the  Matariki Festival is on  you can see seven stars-

1. Matariki
2. Tupu a nuku
3. Tupu a rangi
4. Waipunarangi
5. Waiti
6. Waita
7. Ururangi

Highlights? I was in cooking with Mrs Tele'a

1. My highlight is that me and my team won the competition of who was the best decorated eating table and that we all worked together to make origami stars and the first to do them too.

2. My second highlight is that we all had fun together as a cooking class to help each other out and have a yummy lunch together.

Should NZ celebrate this? Yes  Why?
Because this signals an important time in the  New Zealand calendar,  Matariki is a celebration of culture, culture, language and history. Matariki is part of New Zealand's history and starting a new year for Maori people.

Narrative- The Lucky Diamond.

Task Description: For this weeks writing task we have done another narrative and this time it had to a free image with a tree inside. We had to use the T.O.P.S structure and this stands for title, orientation, problem, and solution.

The Lucky Diamond

Fairy Tales Fantasy Narrative - Free image on Pixabay
Names:Bryant, James

It was a lovely morning and Bryant woke up, he  grabbed his favourite thing in the world, Bryant loves adventures and he always likes to explore places. There was a little shiny diamond on his desk and he loved it. He thought it was real. He went down stairs and heard a doorbell, it was his friend James,

“What should we do today?” said Bryant with excitement.

“I saw a allway near my house, and I think it’s a new one,” he said.

They were thinking of having an adventure and so they packed up and went off with no explanation.  When they got there they walked through the alleyway and spotted a lot of green trees,
“It’s a forest!” said Bryant

“WOW!” said James with his eyes wide.

As they walked they saw a path and so they followed, on the way they stopped for a snack and water. It was day time and so they thought they had to be back by afternoon.

As they continued with their adventure Bryant slipped his hand in his pocket for his diamond, but then suddenly it was gone.

“Oh no where's my diamond!” said Bryant as he screamed.

“What! Oh no!” said James with a fright.

They looked everywhere and suddenly saw in front of them a cottage, they walked towards it and didn’t know what to do, but knocked. There was an old lady that opened the door and said

“What are you doing here at this time of day?” she said with a growly voice.

James answered

“Sorry to bother you, but we're just trying to look for my friend's diamond”  with a scared voice.

The lady looked with great relief and she thought in her head if she could help the little boys and see if she can find them around the forest with some help.

When they got to the end of the path of the old lady's house they went up and down the path heaps of times. It was getting too late and the afternoon was passing by, but suddenly a man was walking past and peeked down below all the way at the front of the path. He saw something shiny and he could see a shiny flicker from all they where they were and so they ran up to the man, and the man turned around and said

“Is this your little boy”

“Yes, thankyou sir for this,” Bryant said with relief.

The looked closely and thought that it might be actually real, so he told Bryant this

“Little boy I think this is most certainly real” said the man with a smiley face.

They all went to a store to check out if the diamond was real and so it was. Bryant and James' faces were with a huge smile on their face and they were filled with happiness and couldn't wait to tell their parents.

It was a brand new day and they decided to use their money that they got from the man yesterday to go on a family vacation, along with James' family too.
They had so much and were happy of how that man was so kind and honest.

- I am grateful for nice breakfast that my mum has made.

'Believe In Yourslef' Joseph Parker.

On Fridays we Point England School always has an assembly and today was a bit different.

As we started off with our normal schedule for assembly something changed and it was a special guest and his name was Joseph Parker, also his sister Elizabeth Parker. Joseph is a New Zealand professional boxer of Samoan Heritage, his sister Elizabeth is like a boss for him because she helps him train and do more things to be the boxer that he is.

Joseph's speech was about two important things that he has used to be a boxer throughout his whole career:

Believe in yourself: This is important because sometimes you need to focus on believing and not listening to what other people say about you.

Nothing beats hard work: This means always having hard work before everything you do and because without it somethings can be possible but sometimes you can achieve in whatever you do.

My question if I was to ask Joseph Parker is,
What was the best thing about being a professional boxer?.

My Message of thanks to Joseph Parker:
Thank you Joseph for coming to our school and to the teachers who has made it possible, you're two special things you’ve said that you used throughout your career was very cool and inspiring because all the negativity out there is wrong and you have said to always Believe In Yourself and that’s a very important thing to remember. The other one you have said was Nothing Beats Hard Work, everything that we do in life to try and achieve is to always do hard work and without it something may not be possible in life, so a very big thanks and god bless.

Marine Biomes.

Task Description: For today's home class work we have learnt about 1 particular biome and it was the Marine Biome. We had to find a definition of what biome is and then we watched a video just up the Marine Biome part, then learnt  different types of biomes that are in the Marine Biome. After that we listed some things down from the video and then made a poster of what is inside the Marine Biome and what inside of all that.

Definition

A biome is a community of plants and animals that have common characteristics for the environment they exist in. They can be found over a range of continents. Biomes are distinct biological communities that have formed in response to a shared physical climate.

Here is the definition from (Wikipedia) about biomes.

Marine Biome: (Largest Biome)

- 70% - Salt water is covered around the earths surface.
- There are  over 230,000 animals living in the marine biome.
- Like fish, octupus, turtles, sea horses, seals, the blue whale, and much much more.
-All live in grow in the ocean
- Polips make the coral reef graduate bigger, (after polips die then next generation comes).

Fresh Water Biome:

(Filled with water that has a low of salt water.)
-Sea creature can not survive in the fresh water but in the salt water.
- Ponds, lakes, rivers are all in the fresh water biome.

Narrative Writing Test: My New Friends.

Task Description: Here is our writing test for the term and and we had to proof read it and post it on our blog. What we had to do is pick a picture and choose 1 out of 4, then we had to plan for 5 minutes then start writing for 45 minutes straight, I hope you enjoy my narrative writing.

My New Friends

A girl named Anna was a really joyful girl, she was at a wonderful school in Sydney, Australia. Anna loved all her friends and how great she was at her learning, every Saturday she and her parents go out and buy ice-cream. But Anna was the only child, so it was hard sometimes for her not talking to any but her parents. One day Anna’s parents told her some good and bad news, they were moving to a city called Madrid in Spain, but Anna was feeling sad because she didn't want to leave all her friends. Her father got a new job there, and so they had to move to Spain for the new job, Anna was down and wasn’t feeling too excited.

On the 29th of May a beautiful warming morning appeared and they arrived in Spain, then they caught a taxi to the city Midrid. They were living in an apartment up in a high building and mother couldn't wait to put Anna into a new school, so Anna could have lots of friends and start fresh. Anna’s birthday was in two days mum just remembered and said,

“How awesome Anna, we're going to celebrate your 9th birthday here in Madrid.” she said with excitement.

As the day went past and the sun went down, Anna was finished packing her stuff in her new room, Anna was still a bit miserable but soon found a way to just be grateful,  and it was to play some board games with her family.

The next day arrived and it was Anna’s first day at Rivera Primary School, father was off to his new job and mother was getting ready, as Anna was having breakfast. Anna hopped of the chair and went to grab her backpack in her room, mother called out,

“Come on Anna you're gonna be late!.”

“Ok Mother!.” Anna yelled

They both raced to the car and drove off to school. A few moments later Anna was put into a class with a lot of kids and her class name was Tahi, which means 1. When Anna was sitting at a table everyone around her were all colouring a picture of School and writing what is amazing about school. She had received a paper and started her picture at school, soon the bell rang and that was morning tea break. She got her lunch out and ate outside on the bench, when she was playing no one wanted to play with her and that was a bit of a problem. But then it was time to go home and mum picked her up at the school gates.

As they got home mum asked,

“How was your first day at school Anna.” she said happily.

“Bad.” said Anna

“Know one didn’t want to play with me.” Anna said as well with great sadness

Mum went over and cheered her up with a snack.

It was the next day and 1 more day till Anna turned 9, while Anna was at school again she still played on the slide by herself. But then three girls came up to her and said

“Hi my name is Galah,” Said the girl with curly hair.

“Hi my name is Emma.” Said the girl with a great big smile.

“Hi my name is Jayla.” Said the girl with a pink outfit.

Jayla went up closely and said with a happy voice,

“Would you like to come and play with us on the swings.”

Anna looked up with a huge smiley face,

“Sure I’d love to come and play,” she said.

Then they were on their way playing all around and having fun with each other. Anna felt happy and joyful to have new friends playing with her so she became their best friend and they became hers.

Finally it was Anna’s 9th birthday and she was so excited to go back to school, early in the morning mother surprised her with a pancake cake with a candle and father was even there singing Happy Birthday to her.

Anna was at school and she and her mother decided to have a birthday party as soon as Anna came back from school, but Anna wanted to invite all of her friends from school, and she told Galah, Emma, and Jaylah to come to her birthday party. Mum was so happy that she had made friends and would be very fine with some friends coming over.

It was after school and her friends and she went to her house and had lots of fun, playing games, painting nails and baking cookies. But there was one more thing, the cake, everyone gathered and sang happy birthday to Anna and she blew her candles out and opened presents. Anna really wanted to go out for ice-cream, so her mum found a place around the corner from the building and they all had some ice-cream together.
