SLJ - Activity 3: Tuvalu Language Week.

Spring Learning Journey

Task Description: For this  activity we have touched on the Tuvalu Language Week, and above this description is a little about the Tuvaluan Language and theme. Tuvalu has some pricinples that guard their theme for the year and I chosen one, also making a poster and explaining what I think the principle means. But also finding the meaning for 'principle' and in this poster I have the added the poster theme too.

Tuvalu Language Week! is this week and the theme is "Fakatili Te Kiloga Fou" which means "Navigating the changing environment".  Tuvalu Auckland Community Trust, Taumatuas, parents and families are knowledge holders and play important roles in keeping the Tuvaluan language and culture traditions alive.

These are guided by principles such as:

Olaga kau fakatasi ko te maopoopo ko te malosi

(Unity is togetherness and strength)

Olaga fiafia o sala te poto sala se lumanai manuia

(Wisdom is the path to happiness and a bright future)

Olaga Fealofani

(Live in peace with others)

E see ko pati ako faiga

(Actions speak louder than words).

SLJ - Activity 2: Shakespearean English.

Spring Learning Journey

Task Description: For our second activity for the SLJ we are doing Shakespearean English!, this is a type of English made from the author William Shakespeare. Writing a recount about what we did this morning and translating it from this site to Shakespearean English. Below this there is a little bit about William Shakespeare and he was the one that made the famous story Romeo and Juliet. Enjoy!

William Shakespeare was a writer , poet and playwright. He is best known for the plays that he wrote while living in England in the 16th Century. They are still famous because they speak about things that are familiar with us-love, revenge, misunderstanding, disappointment, anger, hurt.  Even though they were written a long time ago. You may have heard of some of his plays: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, King Lear, A Dream of the Midsummer Night.

2019 English:

This morning my family and I woke up to a rainy morning and we got ready for breakfast. Before we head down stairs we made our beds, tided our selves up, and went. For breakfast we had french toast and cereal, after that we cleaned up and did our chores for the day.  Then we went shopping for ourselves and bought some lunch after we did our shopping.

Spring Learning Journey

Spring Learning Journey (SLJ) : This school holidays ours teachers have made us a Spring Learning Journey, which means we post an activity each day that is put down for us. Task Description: For this activity ( No. 1) we have got given to design, create, or draw our own book cover of our favourite book. So then we can draw anything that could match our favourite book and a phrase in my class is 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' because most people just pick books by the cover. Whether it's cool or fun to read to don't judge it because what is written inside may not be as fun to read than the cover. Then we post it to our blog and I hope you enjoy what I have drawn for my favourite book which is 'Amulet Fire Light'.

Gobbly has huge spikes along its back, with slimy, dark green fins. Also has giant red eyes that look like dodgeballs, he has razor sharp teeth and a mouth that drools everytime and covers his whole body in it. Gobbly has a tail like a scorpion that’s enourmourse and big enough to kill people.  He has no hair but instead of hair it’s a shell, hard as a rock, along with his nose that is like a small ant but has a good sense of smell. Gobbly has legs that are like chicken legs, but each step is like a loud stomp, with toes nails as long as his whole body. Gobbly hands are claws, that are just like a T-rex and have lots of hideous bumps on it, along with purple spots all around his claws.

Tongan History Writing: Tapa Cloth.

Task Description: Here is 2-3 paragraphs all about this video called Tapa Cloth. We had to watch a video and write paragraphs about what we have learned about that video.

Everyday in all Tongan Villages you can hear banging noises of women processing the harvested mulberry. The bark of the mulberry is stripped and beaten into fine cloth.

The women gash the bark with their teeth so they can pull it from the wood, making sure the bark stay’s in one piece. The inner layer of the bark is what they need to make the cloth, using a knife to make a start of cutting the bark and it’s form when the inner layer otutu is gently separated from the husk.

After stripping them all off they measure them in same length groups and roll them all up and leave them. Then they soak it in water to soften it and then and start beating them up with ironwood and it has 4 sides. Three of the sides are grooved to help break the fibres, and they beat it until all spread out into a cloth.
