Marine Biomes.

Task Description: For today's home class work we have learnt about 1 particular biome and it was the Marine Biome. We had to find a definition of what biome is and then we watched a video just up the Marine Biome part, then learnt  different types of biomes that are in the Marine Biome. After that we listed some things down from the video and then made a poster of what is inside the Marine Biome and what inside of all that.

Definition: 

A biome is a community of plants and animals that have common characteristics for the environment they exist in. They can be found over a range of continents. Biomes are distinct biological communities that have formed in response to a shared physical climate.

Here is the definition from (Wikipedia) about biomes. 

Marine Biome: (Largest Biome)

- 70% - Salt water is covered around the earths surface.

- There are  over 230,000 animals living in the marine biome.

- Like fish, octupus, turtles, sea horses, seals, the blue whale, and much much more.

-All live in grow in the ocean

- Polips make the coral reef graduate bigger, (after polips die then next generation comes).

Fresh Water Biome:

(Filled with water that has a low of salt water.)

-Sea creature can not survive in the fresh water but in the salt water.

- Ponds, lakes, rivers are all in the fresh water biome.

Narrative Writing Test: My New Friends.

Task Description: Here is our writing test for the term and and we had to proof read it and post it on our blog. What we had to do is pick a picture and choose 1 out of 4, then we had to plan for 5 minutes then start writing for 45 minutes straight, I hope you enjoy my narrative writing.

My New Friends

A girl named Anna was a really joyful girl, she was at a wonderful school in Sydney, Australia. Anna loved all her friends and how great she was at her learning, every Saturday she and her parents go out and buy ice-cream. But Anna was the only child, so it was hard sometimes for her not talking to any but her parents. One day Anna’s parents told her some good and bad news, they were moving to a city called Madrid in Spain, but Anna was feeling sad because she didn't want to leave all her friends. Her father got a new job there, and so they had to move to Spain for the new job, Anna was down and wasn’t feeling too excited.

On the 29th of May a beautiful warming morning appeared and they arrived in Spain, then they caught a taxi to the city Midrid. They were living in an apartment up in a high building and mother couldn't wait to put Anna into a new school, so Anna could have lots of friends and start fresh. Anna’s birthday was in two days mum just remembered and said,  

“How awesome Anna, we're going to celebrate your 9th birthday here in Madrid.” she said with excitement.

As the day went past and the sun went down, Anna was finished packing her stuff in her new room, Anna was still a bit miserable but soon found a way to just be grateful,  and it was to play some board games with her family.

The next day arrived and it was Anna’s first day at Rivera Primary School, father was off to his new job and mother was getting ready, as Anna was having breakfast. Anna hopped of the chair and went to grab her backpack in her room, mother called out,

“Come on Anna you're gonna be late!.”

“Ok Mother!.” Anna yelled

They both raced to the car and drove off to school. A few moments later Anna was put into a class with a lot of kids and her class name was Tahi, which means 1. When Anna was sitting at a table everyone around her were all colouring a picture of School and writing what is amazing about school. She had received a paper and started her picture at school, soon the bell rang and that was morning tea break. She got her lunch out and ate outside on the bench, when she was playing no one wanted to play with her and that was a bit of a problem. But then it was time to go home and mum picked her up at the school gates.

As they got home mum asked,

“How was your first day at school Anna.” she said happily.

“Bad.” said Anna

“Know one didn’t want to play with me.” Anna said as well with great sadness

Mum went over and cheered her up with a snack. 

It was the next day and 1 more day till Anna turned 9, while Anna was at school again she still played on the slide by herself. But then three girls came up to her and said

“Hi my name is Galah,” Said the girl with curly hair.

“Hi my name is Emma.” Said the girl with a great big smile.

“Hi my name is Jayla.” Said the girl with a pink outfit.

Jayla went up closely and said with a happy voice,

“Would you like to come and play with us on the swings.”

Anna looked up with a huge smiley face,

“Sure I’d love to come and play,” she said.

Then they were on their way playing all around and having fun with each other. Anna felt happy and joyful to have new friends playing with her so she became their best friend and they became hers.

Finally it was Anna’s 9th birthday and she was so excited to go back to school, early in the morning mother surprised her with a pancake cake with a candle and father was even there singing Happy Birthday to her. 

Anna was at school and she and her mother decided to have a birthday party as soon as Anna came back from school, but Anna wanted to invite all of her friends from school, and she told Galah, Emma, and Jaylah to come to her birthday party. Mum was so happy that she had made friends and would be very fine with some friends coming over.

It was after school and her friends and she went to her house and had lots of fun, playing games, painting nails and baking cookies. But there was one more thing, the cake, everyone gathered and sang happy birthday to Anna and she blew her candles out and opened presents. Anna really wanted to go out for ice-cream, so her mum found a place around the corner from the building and they all had some ice-cream together.

Topic 2 Plastic.

WALT: Know the ways of plastic being recyclable or not.

Task Description: Today in Science Class we learnt about Plastic, and we are learning how to reuse it and what type of plastic we can reuse. Also sorting out plastic facts into positive, negative, and nutrient, also earning about what each stage of plastic of what is recyclable. We also had to bring plastic to our lesson and sort it out with the sheet below, whether it's recyclable or not.

Plastics Facts:

Positive- 

• Plastics are produced from by-products of crude oil. Because of this, they can be broken back down into a usable product.
• Plastic is lightweight, strong and easy to create. It has been used in endless ways. . . .  and it’s so cheap to make and buy. Other more expensive natural material, such as wood, metals, silk and animal skin have been replaced by plastics.
• Biodegradable refers to the ability of materials to break down and return to nature. For packaging products or materials to qualify as biodegradable, they must completely break down and decompose into natural elements. The decomposing process must take a short time after disposal - typically a year or less.

Negative-

• Great and rare sea birds like albatrosses get tangled up in old fishing gear and die. Around 400,000 marine mammals die every year due to plastic pollution in oceans.
• Since the 1950’s, one billion tons of plastic has been thrown away around the world. Micro-plastic - minute particles of plastic have been found in the deepest oceans we can explore, on the highest mountains we can climb, and in the most remote areas of the world.
• A big source of micro plastics in wastewater from washing machines. Washing synthetic clothes in rivers and lakes does the same thing.
• Plastics generally have a short life compared to metals. This short life cycle results in pile-ups of unwanted garbage in the homes, streets, towns,villages, waterways, and waste yards.  In some cities in the world creek and river waters don’t follow because of the plastics build up.
• Since the 1950’s, one billion tons of plastic has been thrown away around the world. Micro-plastic - minute particles of plastic have been found in the deepest oceans we can explore, on the highest mountains we can climb, and in the most remote areas of the world. 

          

Some plastics are highly flammable - for example: polystyrene, acrylics, polyethylene and nylons commonly used in packaging, home and office appliances. This makes them a fire hazard.

• Many marine animals mistake some type of plastic for food and eat them. Turtles often die because it blocks their digestive system, sothey starve. Marine animals (like dolphins) often get trapped by plastic nets or ropes and either drown or starve to death.
• The durability and long-lasting life of plastics are the things that cause problems in the environment. It will take decades . . . .centuries before plastics that are now on earth begin to break down.
• Sea creatures, like worms, molluscs and crustaceans, are at the bottom of the food chain - that is, are eaten by other larger animals. They often end up ingesting microplastics. . . which then pass up the food chain. Other animals, and humans, end up with microplastics in their bodies . . . and get sick or die.
• Polythene bags - the ones given out or sold in shops and used for packaging, are easily carried by wind, something that makes them almost impossible to collect for recycling.

• The first synthetic plastic was made in 1907 by a Belgian named Leo Baekeland. He invented bakelite in a lab in New York. Bakelite was known as the ‘the material of 1,000 uses’. It has been used to make phones, radios, jewellery, chess sets and so much more.

Activity:

We had to bring plastic along to Science Class and we used it to put in groups with the Plastic Template at the very top. Our plastic that we have brang is in categories, check the photo up top and see what type of plastic we have.

Wk 2: How to make a Poppy.

Task Description: It is week 2 of Term 2 and for writing, we are doing our own creations on how to make a poppy at home using things around our house. Also seeing if we can make something to do with Anzac day because it is coming up very soon. I hope you can enjoy making this poppy and trying to make one of your own too.

Materials Used:

Pencil

Scissors

Glue Stick

Stick

Red Tissue Gift Paper

Black Buttons

Instructions: 

1. Grab the red tissue paper and fold it 3 times. 
2. Draw a poppy out on it with your pencil. Make sure it is big (nearly cover the paper.
3. Cut out the poppy outline and make sure there are 8 poppy flowers.
4. Take your stick and wrap around  1 of the poppy papers and tape it.
5. Take the rest of the poppy papers and glue stick them around as you go.
6. Grab 1 black button and glue stick it in the middle of the poppy.
7. Then grab your black marker and draw lots of little squiggly lines in the middle of the poppy.

Wk 1: Intro to Statistics.

Task Description:   This week for maths we another week of learning in isolation and the task for the week was the Intro to statistics and are learning all the different graphs for data and more. Also, we have been learning different ways and how to use the graphs that are given. 

Wk 1: SYNTHESIS- Pandemic of 1918

Task Description: For this week's reading task we have been doing synthesizing Information about the Pandemic of 1918. We had to write information from the book and read what we understand, then down below I have done new information about the pandemic of 1981. That was our work for the week and more will come soon.

My new understanding of the 1918 pandemic is that there was an outbreak of the influenza pandemic which was called the 1918 Pandemic. pandemic is an outbreak of disease across a country, a continent, or the world, but this one was influenza. It mostly affects younger and older people, but suddenly when a person has caught the influenza their immune system responds by creating antibodies so it can fight it back. The future of these viruses is to cause mutation in the human genome, Antibody is a protein that the body makes to defend itself against foreign substances. People would die just within twenty-four hours or even longer than a week, but as during this time all ages, even children had to help out with making food for the sick and making sure that they had lots of help.

Task Description: This is my scratch animation and we had to make a projects showing the world map, there are 7 continents and they are Asia, Africa, North and South America, Antarctica, Europe, Australia. We drew our own back drop on hyper studio and filed it to our drive and onto scratch, we also could use sprites from scratch or draw it. The Creeped Out Book.

The Creeped Out Book-

It was dark and the wind was howling, everyone was asleep but I was the only one awake. Looking out the window it was a terrifying night and I was so creeped out about that night. After a while I was reading my book and the name of it was Creeped Out Night. There was something very strange about this book and I was keen to find out what it was.

The Next Day . . . 

Once it was morning I looked at the time and it was 8:45am, we had to get up because it was a special day for me. I thought that it was time to go to the library and find out more about this book. So then on we went with my mum, brother ( Bob), and I. We arrived at the library and barely anyone was there, so we went inside to see what we could find.

A while ago . . .

We talked to the lady at the counter and asked her if she knew this book. The lady led us to the shelf of scary books and showed us a poster. The poster had the book that I was reading on it, it said beware of this book because it will give you nightmares. I was terrified and scared, but once the lady showed me the iele she left straight away like she was scared too. But something that I didn’t was wrong, on the poster at the bottom of the page it said check on page 127, there is another page stuck to it and it tells you more about the book. Me and my brother raced back to the car to get the book and once we got it we raced back inside.

2 minutes later . . . 

Bob and I sat at the table while our mum was looking at some other books. We cut open the page and it came with a message, it said if you are reading this go to the earth globe and crack it open. Find the light and it will glow, I went to the globe and did what it asked. Bob came with me to the globe and we opened it together, it looked like it was already opened for somebody to check it out. As we both peered at the glow and took it out, it was a pearl golden ball that was glowing. The little ball had some kind of spell and we both went back to the book.

1 sec later  . . . 

As we back to the book and opened it again it said something else at the very bottom of the page. We read it and it said once you have found the pearl ball say a wish and it would come true. But be very careful what you wish for because it might ruin your whole life, if possible. There was also a tip right next to the fancy writing, it said Tip:If you are trying to get rid of this book, you would need to make the one wish with that golden ball. But if you don’t you will have that book forever, because if you throw it in the trash it will come back straight to where you left it. In other ways it would follow you everywhere you go, and it’s very creepy, that’s why in the middle or beginning of the story it said (it will give you nightmares). So you must do the following things it tells you to do first or make the decision to get rid of the book.

After Bob and I read the Tip bit we were really scared, so we got the golden ball and held it in both of our hands. We both said “Golden ball Golden ball whish us this wish, take this book and send it away for good”, after 2 seconds they donked each other in the head and looked straight in the eye of each other. It was time to go home and mum saw them on the floor, “are you ok yous two” mum said with a sigh. Mum heard the big bang that happened with the golden ball, both of the boys looked around and the book was gone. They both popped up and hugged each other in relief, they said “few that was a mission (kind of)” they were so happy that the book was gone.

Task Description: This is a narrative writing that we had to do but with the voice type. We all had to use voice type witch was on tools and we had to use the picture at the top to help us. If you read the story the picture will show what it is doing too and this is the piece of writing that I have done in the middle. Hope you enjoy reading my narrative story about The Creeped Out Book. My Favourite Place - Westcity.

My Favourite Place - Westcity.

Classification - 

Westcity is a place like Sylvia Park but this places it much farther away from Auckland. This place is like a big mall but located all the way out on the west side of New Zealand, and this could take about 30 minutes to go by car. My favourite part about this place is the Cinemas because they are cheaper than all the other cinemas around.

Subheading 1 - The Mall

When you are in the mall it looks very big compared to other malls. But if you need to find a shop and you don’t know where it is, you can ask the reception staff for help. In the mall, the most popular shop are Factory, Whitcoulls, Posties+, Farmers, and much much more. Outside if the mall there are also shops, and there are about 5 or 6 more shops outside. If you walk back to your car the very last shop is a shop that has all kinds of things. In the shop, there are slime, arts and crafts, toys, bouncy balls, and many more. The car park is also big and there is even an upstairs car park for cars that have nowhere to park.

Subheading 2 - The Cinemas 

You arrive from the motorway and into Westcity (Westgate) you could see a nice view of the mall. But then on the left or right side is the Cinemas and it is really huge. The Cinemas open at about 9 or 10 o’clock and most Cinemas open at that time too.  In the Cinemas when you get your ticket and stuff snack the best thing of all is the popcorn and chocolate. Then there is the game room, you can play on the game mansions but you have to pay like always. Right next to the game room is the toilet and then the way to the Cinema to watch the movies.

Subheading 3-The Food Court

The food court in Westcity is the best time to have something to eat because you can choose whatever you want. You can pick whatever you want and I sometimes get sushi or butter chicken. Some food is really expensive compared to other shops but when you eat they are worth it. In the mall, the different foods you can choose from are McDonalds, Sushi, Butter Chicken, Texas Chicken, and many more.

Conclusion -

Have you ever been to Westcity before?
That is some of the information about Westcity and I hope you enjoyed it.  Westcity is a fun place to go to with family or friends. My favourite thing about Westcity is the Cinemas and the food court because they are so much fun to go to.
