Our Rainbows End Trip.

Yesterday we year 7’s went to Rainbows End for our end of year trip. But first we started the day off with team assembly, voting for 2020 leaders, and the roll. So after all of that we waited for our buses to arrive and then we were off.

Finally it was time to go in to Rainbows but before that we had to do a security check, and they would come around and give you a purple wristband. The security check was to see if any of us had any spray, pencil cases, or sharp things. Then it was time to go and do heaps of fun things, but we had to stick with our little group for the whole day. I was in a group with Egen (our parent helper) and some of the year 7 girls in our home class.

We all went off and started to go the rides around Rainbows End, our first ride was the Log Flume, and then the Invader. It was the last ride before morning tea and it was a Roller Coaster, and there was a long line but a short time on it. Morning tea was in our bags so we went to go and sit down and eat our food together.

The next rides were the stratosphere and the gold rush because we wanted to go and buy food from the shop, so we only rode on 2. The stratosphere was the scariest because it our first time for some of us going on the extreme one. We bought hot chip and donuts from the shop and that was our lunch, also some food from our bag.

An hour went pass and it was nearly time to go so we all went to go and watch some other kids from our school on the bumper boats. It was time to go and we all packed up and went to the entrance of Rainbows End. Our teachers checked the role and called our names if we were all here again, then we went on the bus making our back to school.

Keyhole Narrative.

Keyhole Narrative-

It all began when I was at school and let me tell you this, I've never been so frightened before just because of this that doesn’t mean I was so scared (but was I).

It was about 8:30 am and I was at school getting ready for the first block of the day which was Literacy/reading and writing. Then I noticed that I forgot to get my books at home this morning so I asked my teacher Miss Charlotte if I could go to the library. But then she actually needed to go too and so did my friend Mary, so we popped out of class for a bit and went off. As we got there, my other friend (Nevaeh) she was reading a book and so we went to go and sit next to her and talk while our teacher was talking the library lady too. When we sat next to her Mary and I looked at the book she was reading and it was this big brown weird looking book with a magic map on it and other things, so we asked what it was about but she was too focused on it. Anyway as went looking for the books that we needed, but something strange was going on at the same time.

We looked around and everything was just quite, then we ran back to Nevaeh and she read up to this page that was actually a spell and we didn’t think that it would be real. Suddenly the page that she was on was the spell bit and everything was changing and it went pitch black all of a sudden.

Everyone was on this small island and it was floating around, me and my friends, plus Miss Charlotte was so scared and confused at the same time. We looked at eachother and we made our way into this cave thing. After that we had a map, the map that was on the front page of the book, I got up and started to look around. It looked like we were in this other world, because we've never seen anything like this before in our lives. Now we looked at the map and started to read what it said, it says that we have to try and get the keep that was with in a keyhole if we wanted to get out of this world.

Okay, we have to do this we all said together, and then we took the map and went off further into the cave. Finally we could see some clues on the map because we’ve accomplished the first stage and we were so happy to see that we were working together as a team. But then that wasn’t all because it was the only stage and when we saw the keyhole all of us started jumping happily because we all wanted to go home. So then we got closer and closer to the keyhole and we did it!.

The End.

Minaiakalani Film Festavil 2019.

Today we went to Sylvia Park Cinemas to have the 12 annual Manaiakalani Film Festavil Day, but we year 7, 8, and 6's went for an hour. In the morning we left school like about 9:30 am, we hopped on the bus and drove off to Sylvia Park.

Once we arrived there all of us started walking towards the colourful poles and then we could start up our 2 lines. As we walked into the mall we all saw some other schools that are part of the Manaiakalani films, and after we came up from the stairs we entered the Cinemas and it was packed in there. But when we went further into the movies we had to line up and wait for the other schools to go in the cinema rooms. Finally we walked into the room and we were combined with St Pius X Catholic School, everyone sat on a seat and waited for a bit.

Until it was time the movies began and the presenters started to go on stage, once a team of presenters have been finished talking their movie would come up and show what they have talked about in their speech. After the movie everyone would clap and cheer for the when each movie has been done.

Now it was time to go back to school and it then have morning tea, but we didn't go outside because we got back to school like after 11:30 am ( the normal time we finish morning tea). So we all headed out of the cinemas and started going onto the bus, the bus that me and some other students from other classes went in this nice cool bus. Because Mrs Ilaoa asked the one of the bus drivers if we could go on because it was empty, so we made our on and start driving to school. It was a fun journey travelling to Sylvia Park and back, also it was fun to see different kind of movies, even from other schools.

We arrived at school and it was time to start eating our morning tea, then once we have finished we could start waiting for the other half of Team 5 to get back from Sylvia Park. After the wonderful time at the cinemas we have spent the rest of the day blog commenting on other movies and also from other schools, but not only that but also writing about the day we have had.

WALT:

Narrative Writing - My Sister Big Day.

My Sisters Big Day-

It was a Sunday morning and Milly was so excited, she was so hyped that she came jumping on me like a wild bull. This happened all because she was going to have her first recital with her new ballet group, ever since she had joined the group she loved it. But I am not the person for those kind of things I like doing other things, and there we go again another crazy morning with her rushing everywhere. Me and Milly raced down stairs because we could smell pancakes for breakfast, we both sat on the table eating up everything. We were stuffed so Milly and I went back up stairs to get ready for Milly’s big day.

Finally we hopped in the car and dad drove us to school, where the recital was. When we arrived there, my sister went sprinting like a cheetah all the way to the hall, where the rest of the group was getting ready. She was talking with her teacher after me and dad came out of the car, and even her friends were so happy to see her too. The group came out and there were a lot of other ballet groups in too, because they are going to have a competition against each other.

After the group finished getting ready, Milly came out in a stunning outfit that was pink, just like the rest. It was time to take our seats so dad and I got a seat right in front of the stage. Up first was this cute ballet group with blue sparkly outfits and I think the captain of the group was wearing a white sparkly outfit. For a while we have seen 3 groups and they were all great, but Milly’s team was saved the best for last and so they didn’t go on until 3 more groups were done.

Me and dad was so surprised for all the groups but also waiting to see the best group ever, Milly’s group. It was like 10 o’clock and we were so thirsty that we got a drink at the vending machine near the toilets. Then we came back to our seats and sat down watching a group with pretty purple feathery outfits all around. Up next was Milly’s group and they are the last group to be seen out of all 7 groups, so dad got out his phone and started to take videos and pictures.

But before they went on stage Milly realised something, she didn’t have any ballet shoes and if she didn’t have them she wouldn’t be able to dance. She rushed to her bag and checked if they were in there, but there only had been her pink nike sports shoes. The time was ticking and everyone was waiting, I went into the changing rooms and there she was crying because she had left her ballet shoes at home. It would take some time to drive all the way back home, so I had a talk with her and said that she could be herself and dance in the shoes that she had got there already. I told her that if anyone laughs at my little sister that it’s okay because I'll be there for her watching how well she can dance. After a little bit we hugged and she raced back to the group to get ready to dance, they went up and they all danced beautifully even my sister Milly.

Being a good Daughter.

What it means to be a good daughter. Are you a good daughter, do you listen to your parents? In this writing I'm going to explain what it means to set a good example for your siblings, listening to your parents, and saying positive things to others.

Setting a good example for your siblings especially your younger ones.
If you have siblings then you can show what it looks like to be a good daughter and son, and even having fun with them too. But making sure that you show the correct things when they are with you and showing respect to one another.
For example, if they see you doing something wrong they would copy you and keep on doing it until your parents see. Also remembering they would be looking up to you as they grow up and making sure that they do the right things.

Listening to your parents is important because they will be seeing how you go as their daughter and seeing if you listen at school too.
But you should always listen because you can learn from that and take it along with you as you grow. Also if they tell you to do something, just do it and listen to them even if it’s doing some chores.
Remember to not talking back to them and not having a bad attitude towards them. Remembering that they are your parents not your friends or anybody else and that you show respect and be a good daughter.

Have a good mouth not a cheeky one and say positive things to each other and not a bad one.
Saying nice things is good but mostly at home and at school because if you don’t then you are not being a daughter. When other people say mean things just tell the right way to nice things and make sure you do it to others too.
Thinking that you might get into trouble if saying bad things but also being more kind and remembering not to say things that would hurt other people. Another thing is if other people hear you saying that then they might copy and pass it on to other people.

Hope you take this as a good explanation writing and also making sure that you can use these as good things. So setting a good example for others, listening to your parents, and having a positive mouth will make you a good daughter to your parents.

Task Description: Here is my explanation writing for this week and we are working on these to practice for our writing tests. This writing is about how to be a good daughter and taking these as good example of ho to be one. Hope you enjoy reading my writing and may you have a good day.

Team 4 Immersion Assembly.

Today is the start of Term 4 and we Team 5 started of with our normal Team Assembly, then after that we went into a cool Immersion Assembly, the theme for this term is “Life’s a Stage”. We are learning about drama, dancing, acting, and much more, but for team 5 we are focusing on dancing the most and learning dances from around the world. This term I would like to find out heaps about different dances from countries around the world and learn  about the different things in dancing. In assembly each team showed what they are going to be doing for the term and we started off with Team 1. All the teachers that are part of Team 1 they filmed a movie about the Cinderella Movie. This term they are acting out different stories and learning about dancing with good footwork. Moving on to Team 2 and they are learning drama and showing their emotions with their faces and bodies. Next up is Team 3 and what they are doing is going back to the other terms and learning about the different koreros and doing lots of movements. It’s Team 4 now and they are acting out the Toy Shop Production and doing different dances with interviews included. Last but not least is Team 5 and we are doing different dances around the world and learning heaps about other things throughout the term.

Task Description: Here is a quick summary about this terms theme and what all the other team are doing too. Hope you enjoy reading this and may you have a good day.

Number 28.

It was 12:00 o’clock at night and I was tired, I picked up my phone and suddenly I got a text. The text was from my friend Nevayah, it said Paigey hurry you better run and tell your parents there's a huge robot outside, sorry gotta go Byeeee. When I finished reading the text I just put it down and started running to my parents room telling them the text I got. But they wouldn't believe me so I told them to look outside and the big their was a big robot tearing down the city, so they looked at each other and got me and we all ran to the car not even thinking to look back at the window.

We went to Nevayah house first because we wanted them to be safe too and their car broke down so we speed there. When we got their me and Nevayah looked at the robot and it had a number 28 on it so decided to call ‘The 28’, but we didn't even know what we were doing naming the robot. So then suddenly we looked at the direction it was going and it heading to the sky tower.

Wondering why it was going there so we told my mum and dad to stop the car this instinct and we both ran out of the car not even telling our parents what was going on. Our parents was chasing after us but we already knew what the robot what trying to do, as we ran together as fast as we could lose our parents at the back of us. As we  both look at each other while running we both said at the same time what are we doing with a panicked voice. We were so close to the robot it looked like he was taller than the sky tower, then suddenly we zoomed in between his legs and headed straight to the sky city door. But then we heard a loud bang and then . . . . To be continued.

Technology is not always Life.

Technology is not always Life.
What is so good about technology all the time?
Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important. Technology is not a thing where you go on it everyday and each second, but taking some time off it and resting your mind from the bright screen.
Technology is not good for your eyesight because it could damage your vision of what you see.
Every time you are on a device all the screen does is cause eye strain and other vision problems.
For example, making sure that your taking some time off so your parents wouldn't have to take you to a doctor and check your eyesight.

Technology can distract you from anything important because you might forget what you have to do.
When your parents are talking to and you're not listening that means if you have to do something important, it might have been very serious.
For example, finishing off essays and doing your homework for the next day to be prepared for your test.

It can take you away from the people you love most and that you care about.
Being mindful of the people that you care about and making sure you spend more time with them than on your device.
For example, technology can take you away from your best friends that love you and that they want to hang out. But being on your device and choosing it over the people you love the most.

Now  technology can be very bright because of the screen, but having some time’s off it than being on it each and every day. Also getting the children to motivate and work together as a team with a teacher more than on a device. So technology is actually a thing that you can contact people or anything
else, so things like this is basically a tool for people.

Task Description: This is week Room 1 literacy has been doing explanation writing and we had to add the SEE information with it. Which was a statement, a explanation, and example. When we have finished writing it we had to highlight the statement in blue, the explanation in green, and the example in pink. Also in the very beginning of our writing we had to write a hook sentence and question, so we can hook our readers. But in the end we also have to add a conclusion to end our explanation writing. Hope you enjoy reading my explanation writing and may you have a great day.

The Science Behind De-Extinction
Headings/Trigger Words
Write down a heading and trigger words to help you retell each paragraph
The idea of de-extinction is that we can bring back species that are now completely gone. The major flashpoint of interest in what has now led to de-extinction technology happened about 10 years ago when Dolly the sheep was created.
In many ways, Dolly was the harbinger of the kind of technology that will permit us to do even more sophisticated kinds of creation of species that used to exist, species that still exist and perhaps even species that never existed.
We can group relevant methods into three large categories. There's back-breeding which humans have practiced literally for thousands and thousands of years. This is being done right now in Western Europe, trying to recreate what's known as the aurochs.
The way cows look today is not the way the cattle family looked 10,000 years ago. So, if your problem is to recreate one of those primitive cows, what do you do? Well you reach back into the genetic code by selecting for animals that have slightly longer horns or a bigger bulk or the kind of hide coloration that you think is appropriate. It is a very viable and low-tech way of de-extinction. And the investigators trying to do this back-breeding to aurochs have had some success. The animals look quite a bit like old representations that go right back to cave paintings.
But what is it really?

What it is really is a constellation of traits that you've selected for and you know nothing, really, about how close it is physiologically to an aurochs because there's no way of examining a living aurochs at present. You also don't know about behavior. Behavior tends not to fossilize in any realistic manner and the degree to which any modern cow resembles an aurochs in terms of behavior is a complete unknown.
A second method for de-extinction that has improved greatly in the last 10 years is cloning, particularly the kind of cloning known as somatic cell nuclear transfer. You take the genetic material -- the nucleus -- of one cell, you put it into another -- an egg -- and that egg is then placed in an animal that will act as surrogate mother and produce an offspring.
There's also been massive improvements in what we can call synthesis. Synthesis involves making up our own sequence, just like in a recipe. If you have two species -- one extinct, one living -- you can get the genetic material of the extinct one and compare that to the living one.
Passenger pigeons died out, finally, almost exactly a hundred years ago. Passenger pigeons have several very close relatives among pigeons and one is the band-tailed pigeon, which is very close indeed.
In recent years, scientists have been able to isolate the differences between the genomes of extinct passenger pigeons and living band-tailed pigeons. They've been able to inject these novel sequences into the germ line of developing band-tailed pigeons and using surrogates with the sex cells of passenger pigeons. If you cross breed them one to another, you will in the next generation get something that should look exactly like a passenger pigeon.
Now comes the basic question here, which is: What are you going to do with passenger pigeons, assuming that you go ahead and create a whole flock of them? It's been estimated that there were probably more passenger pigeons than any other kind of bird ever.
I don't know what we would do with a billion passenger pigeons. We don't like pigeons to begin with in this place. A very important thing to consider about extinctions in general in the course of life on the planet is that the waters close very quickly when a species disappears. What tends to happen is that other species move in.
This is how evolution in fact works.
The mammoth behind me perfectly illustrates some of the issues that we're going to face with de-extinction. There is no place for several more very large herbivores in a place like the U.S. except under very controlled conditions. Who's going to take care of them? How are you going to provision them? Are we thinking that we're going to bring back the Pleistocene by virtue of having a few extinct species?
What we're really talking about is undertaking a whole lot of unplanned experiments, the consequences of which are very hard to predict. We don't want a situation in which we drive out species that are perhaps already endangered thanks to us with something else that we drove to extinction thousands of years ago.
De-extinction to the degree it will take place should be limited in its scope, limited in its ambition, limited in the kinds of species that we bring back. But if there was one animal I could vote for to bring back, it would be one of these giant ground sloths.
If you want people to be interested in not only what the planet still has and how we might conserve it, but what the planet has recently lost and perhaps most particularly what it's lost because of human activities, then to see these again, to see mammoths again in the flesh would be an exciting prospect.
It would raise rather than dampen interest in preserving what we have and what we used to have.
